A Digital Asset Management System (DAM) refers to the software, computation, storage, and networking components that provide the ability to control the storage, access, retrieval, display, distribution, and stewardship of digital media. A Content Management System (CMS) generally refers to web content, including the managing and versioning of web pages. A DAM refers to discreet, usually digital media, files. Some CMSes integrate to DAMs for the backend media repository but not for saving web pages. Those web pages stay within the purview of the CMS.
